Vanity Fair’s Heath Ledger cover story: Is it celebrity porn?

When you read a 5,000-word magazine piece that begins by saying, “It’s nine in the morning and I am in a cab threading its way through a tangle of narrow country lanes …,” you know that you’re reading Vanity Fair, the last magazine left standing where writers are encouraged to let us know way too much about themselves (as in one infamous VF piece in which the female journalist quoted the person she was writing about offering a fulsome appreciation of her legs) and far too little about the actual subject of the profile.

A new study by researchers at the Bradley Hasbro Children’s Research Center suggests that the incidence of heterosexual anal sex is increasing among teens and young adults - particularly those who have recently had unprotected vaginal sex. Porn on cell phones in class

December 7, 2008   By KRISTINE SHAWKEY  Standard-Examiner staff   OGDEN — Several high school students are under police investigation after viewing sexually explicit material from the Internet on their cell phones during class.

Two male students at Ben Lomond High School were caught by a substitute teacher, during a shop class, accessing the Internet with their cell phones to look at nude women, said Ogden Police Lt. Scott Conley.

A third student was questioned but no inappropriate photos were found on his phone. (more…)

Student-Run Sex Magazines Surface Across U.S.

By ALEXA DAVIS  Dec. 6, 2008  Once a semester, Rice University students in Houston gather for “sex-trivia pub night” at Willy’s Pub to test one another’s knowledge of all things sexual. The students divide themselves into teams and, after a few rounds of erotically charged questions, the members of the most sexually knowledgeable team win $20 tabs at the on-campus, student-run hangout.

Hosted by Open magazine, whose pages include nude photos of Rice students, the goal of trivia night is to help students talk comfortably about their sexuality. “Our generation is growing up in a time with moral codes that are preached by Christianity,” said Rachel Solnick, Open editor in chief and Rice sophomore. “But if you’re not religious, you have to have your own moral compass.” (more…)
